Governance Group decision 05/2015 - Registration of SMEs

In order to encourage micro and small enterprises to join the Supply Chain Initiative, the Governance Group has decided to further simplify the procedure for their registration as follows:

- Micro and small enterprises will now only need to register to show their commitment to the initiative and the principles; they will thus no longer be asked to conduct a preliminary self-assessment, to appoint an independent contact point to deal with complaints or to carry out training. Moreover, they will be invited to take part in the survey but this will not be compulsory;
- Medium-sized enterprises will benefit from the current simplified procedure already in place and previously applied to all SMEs, including a commitment to apply the principles, a simplified self-assessment tool, simplified training obligations and a special rate for the on-line training tool. Moreover, no independent contact person is necessary where resources justify this, but there is an obligation to take part in the annual survey;
- Large companies will continue to use the standard registration procedure.

The EU definition (see below) is used to classify an enterprise in each of the categories, micro, small, medium and large.

Company category Employees Turnover OR Balance sheet total
Medium-sized < 250 ≤ € 50 m ≤ € 43 m
Small < 50 ≤ € 10 m ≤ € 10 m
Micro < 10 ≤ € 2 m ≤ € 2 m

The new registration procedure will apply from 1st September 2015. This decision does not require a review of the Framework. The relevant parts of the website, including the sign-up form, have been edited accordingly.
